The Important Documents You Need to Save From Your Remodel

Remodeling Project PaperworkWhen your kitchen, bath, or full home remodel gets underway, there are a lot of moving parts. You may find yourself signing a lot of documents, sending lots of emails, and receiving more paperwork than you know what to do with. A lot of this paperwork is important for your records (especially if something goes wrong or breaks down). What do you need to keep? Here is a short list of the most crucial documents that you need to hang onto:

  • The Contract – Your contract with your remodeler spells out exactly what they agreed to do and for how much. This document is critical if you dispute the final charges or if you feel the remodel company didn’t live up to its promises.
  • Permits – If you needed to pull permits, keep these in case questions come up in the future.
  • Receipts – Keep all the receipts for the materials and finishes you purchased. If something breaks or wears out, you may be able to get a refund.
  • Warranties – Again, these will come in handy if something breaks down in the near future.
  • Manufacturer Guides – If you purchased new appliances or the like, keep the manufacturer guides for references.

If you have a question about whether or not a certain document is important, ask your remodeling company. They should be able to explain what each document is.
